Cat Scratcher Beds
A cat scratcher bed does the two things your cat does anyway: scratch, then sleep. Every CAT JOY scratcher is a cardboard lounger first — a deck of dense 5-layer corrugated board that cats dig their claws into and then curl up on — framed by a real wood facade, so it sits in the living room like furniture rather than a pet accessory. Eight sizes, 59–85 cm, in brown, white or black, handmade in England in our own workshop in Peterborough.
Why cats sleep where they scratch
Cats scratch most right after they wake up, and they like to nap on a surface that smells of them. A cardboard cat bed that is also a scratcher keeps both habits in one place — and away from your sofa. Cardboard holds body heat, so the dip of the curve stays warm, and there are no sisal fibres or carpet to shed. More in our guide: cat scratcher bed, lounge or sofa — which one?
Which cat scratcher bed or lounger?
- Lounger for kittens and small cats: Lounge (59 cm), low and light, for cats up to 4 kg.
- Cat scratcher sofa for most adult cats: the curved Snug (70 cm), higher at both ends like a little sofa — our bestseller, for cats up to 6 kg.
- Scratcher bed with a tunnel: the compact Pavilion (68 cm) and the long, low Terrace (77 cm) — bed on top, hiding place underneath.
- Cat scratching post with bed for large cats: the two-level Mews (76 cm), the XL Penthouse (85 cm, a flat bed for Maine Coons and two-cat homes) and, new this autumn on pre-order, Manor and Rotunda (85 cm).
The rule of paw: the bed should be at least as long as your cat from nose to base of tail. Check the size guide or answer three questions in the size finder.
Cat sofas, couches and loungers
Call it a cat sofa, a cat couch or a cat scratch lounger — the idea is the same: a raised, curved edge to lean on and scratch, and a dip in the middle to sleep in. Snug is the classic cat scratcher sofa; Penthouse is the flat XL couch for a Maine Coon; Terrace and Pavilion add a tunnel underneath for a second cat or a hiding place.
Made to be slept on
Each lounger has two scratchable faces — flip it when one wears — and is made with water-based glue and zero plastic. Free tracked UK delivery, 30-day returns and a 12-month guarantee. Prefer something more like a den? See our cat scratcher houses, or browse all cat scratchers.
Cat scratcher bed FAQ
Can a cat scratcher really be a cat bed?
Yes — most cats nap on their scratcher within days. Cardboard holds body heat and the curved shapes cradle a sleeping cat.
Cardboard cat bed or a soft cat bed?
A soft bed is only a bed. A cardboard cat bed is also where your cat scratches, so it sits where your cat spends the day — and the sofa is spared. In winter many owners add a small blanket.
Which cat scratching post with bed for a large cat?
For a Maine Coon or two cats: Mews (76 cm), Penthouse (85 cm), or the new Manor and Rotunda (85 cm, on pre-order). The bed should be at least as long as your cat from nose to base of tail.
Can two cats share one?
Penthouse, Mews, Manor and Rotunda are made for two cats; Terrace works for two small cats.
