Why a kraft corrugated cardboard cat scratcher instead of a sisal scratching post?
Kraft corrugated cardboard is a texture cats take to straight away. It gives slightly under the claw — that is the satisfying part — without snagging it, it holds body heat, so the scratcher doubles as a cat bed, and there are no rope fibres to shed. A flat cat scratch board also lets your cat stretch out full length, something a short upright post cannot offer. Look for a horizontal kraft corrugated cardboard scratcher at least as long as your cat from nose to base of tail, heavy enough not to slide, and put it where your cat already scratches. Is it a wooden cat scratcher or a kraft corrugated cardboard one?
Both, on purpose. The part your cat scratches is kraft corrugated cardboard — the texture cats prefer, and kind to claws. The sides are real wood in brown, white or black, which keeps the scratcher rigid and makes it look like a piece of furniture.
Is a kraft corrugated cardboard cat scratcher better than a scratching post?
For most cats, yes. A tall sisal post suits cats that scratch upright, but most cats also — or mainly — scratch horizontally, and kraft corrugated cardboard is the texture they choose on their own. A horizontal kraft corrugated cardboard scratcher doubles as a bed, so it gets used every day. Many homes have both.
Why do cats love scratching kraft corrugated cardboard?
Scratching sheds the old outer layer of the claw, stretches the whole body and leaves the cat’s scent. Kraft corrugated cardboard gives slightly under the claw — the feel cats look for on your sofa — which is why they go for delivery boxes too.

Expect a few crumbs in the first week, then almost nothing: the 5-layer board is dense and the wooden sides hold it together.
